Another epic weekend - March 16,17 2002

Saturday

Two feet of fresh, for your pleasure...

Saturday was a long, great day. The weather alternated between snow squalls

and sunshine

it was all deep, it was all good. We fed our addiction for about 9 hours, putting in a good 7000ft of vertical. We were led a bit astray by Ed on our first run, skiing over a little too much flat ground to gain an open gully that he was enthused about, since it had the best snow last time he was here. It wasn't all we thought it would be though.

We redeemed ourselves on the second run though, when we thought we were skiing down one last steep pitch before the trees became dense. I poached first tracks, and when I reached the bottom I zipped through a gap in the wall of trees, and came upon a magical secret 40 foot wide gully in the forest, which seemed to go on and on and on!

As always, it seemed to be sunny on the skin up, rather than the ski down, and the "perfect sunshine and powder photo" continued to elude us.

Sunday

Sunday was spent at Bullion Basin, with a large group. The snow was also awesome, although the sun made things a little heavier on some aspects by late morning. Once again, Silas seemed to know everyone we encountered there. I didn't bring my camera, so here's a picture from the previous weekend instead (not even at Bullion):

Approaching the peak between Arrowhead and Jim Hill mountains. Great slopes off the west side, but the snow wasn't deep enough for things to be truly ecstatic on this day.
